A hypotonic solution is a solution whose solute concentration is lower than that of a cell that is in the solution.

If a cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, it begins to swell up, as waters enters the cell, and if too much water enters the cell, it is going to burst.In a hypotonic solution, there is less solute concentration than that of the cell, and so there is more water concentration than the cell.
